Cookie Policy of Fairbeat Media GmbH

This policy covers fairbeat.com, app.fairbeat.com and help.fairbeat.com. It explains every cookie we set, what our analytics record, and how to change your mind. It supplements the Privacy Policy.

The short version

  • A few cookies are strictly necessary. They keep you signed in, keep the site secure, and remember this very choice. They are set without consent because the site cannot work without them.
  • Analytics run only if you accept them. They are our own, on our own servers, and they count page views and clicks. Nothing is collected before you accept, and declining is a complete opt-out.
  • There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no tag manager, no advertising network, and no profile of you anywhere.
  • We self-host our fonts, so visiting a page does not call out to Google Fonts either.

Cookies we set

  • fb_cookie_consent Remembers which categories you accepted, so you are only asked once. Shared across all three Fairbeat sites. (1 year)
  • authjs.session-token Your sign-in session on the app, if you have an account and are signed in. Shared with the help centre so it knows who you are. (until you sign out)
  • fb_site_lock, fb_lock_next, fb_lock_err The pre-launch password gate on app.fairbeat.com and help.fairbeat.com: that you entered the password, where you were heading, and whether the last attempt failed. Not used on fairbeat.com. (14 days, 15 minutes, 30 seconds)
  • fb_ref Set only if you arrive on a referral link (?ref=), so the person who referred you can be credited at signup. (30 days)
  • fairbeat_plugin Marks the browser as the FL Studio plugin window, so the app shows the plugin surface instead of the full site. (until the window closes)

Our payment providers may set their own strictly necessary cookies during a payment, and the bot check on our forms (Cloudflare Turnstile) may do the same while it runs. Both are listed below.

What the analytics record

If you accept analytics, two random identifiers are stored in your browser (fb_vid in local storage, kept until you clear it, and fb_sid for the current tab), and we record:

  • the site and the path you opened, with the query string removed apart from the campaign tags below,
  • the host of the page that linked you here, if it was an external one,
  • the campaign tags utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, if the link you arrived on carried any,
  • whether this browser had been here before, as a yes or no,
  • whether the window is phone, tablet or desktop sized, from its width,
  • how long the page was actually visible to you, and how far down it you scrolled, sent when you leave the page,
  • the label of a button or link you pressed, if it is one we count, the name of an action such as a waiting-list sign-up, and the host of an external link you followed,
  • the two random identifiers above, and the time.

What we do not record: your IP address, your browser or operating system, your screen or device model, your account, the rest of the query string, and the full address of any external link you follow. We cannot tell who you are from this data, and no profile is built.

Time is measured, not estimated: the counter runs only while the page is visible, so a tab left open in the background adds nothing. It is reported once when you leave the page, and a page closed within a second reports nothing at all.

The events are stored in our own database in the EU and are deleted automatically after 400 days. Clearing the cookie and local storage is a complete reset: the next visit is a new visitor to us, with nothing linking it to the last one.

Changing your mind

Open Cookie Settings and press "Change your cookie choices". You can turn analytics off again at any time, and it takes effect immediately. You can also delete our cookies in your browser settings, which has the same effect; the banner will then ask again on your next visit.

Service providers

These companies process data for us as part of running Fairbeat. Those marked with a star can set strictly necessary cookies in your browser:

  • Vercel Inc. hosting and content delivery for all three sites
  • MongoDB Atlas the database all our own data sits in
  • Wasabi Technologies storage for uploaded audio, artwork and documents
  • Mailjet (Sinch) sending our email: confirmations, receipts, waiting-list and newsletter mail
  • Cloudflare Turnstile the bot check on our contact and application forms *
  • Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. and PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A. payments and payouts *
  • Google Ireland Ltd. only if you choose "Sign in with Google" *
  • Ably the live updates inside the app (messages, notifications)
  • BeatStars only on a /preview page, which loads a public BeatStars profile you asked us to show

Legal bases

Strictly necessary cookies: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and § 25(2) TDDDG. Analytics: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG, which is what the banner asks for and what the setting withdraws. Passwords and plain-text credentials are never stored in a cookie.
